Transformation of production process
(1) Modification of the gravure process. In order to better use a single solvent or a single type of solvent ink, the gravure printing machine must work at a fast speed to accommodate the faster drying speed of a single solvent or a single type of solvent ink, avoiding the problem of shallow net transfer points. Therefore, the oven efficiency must be optimized, the total amount of exhaust gas should be small, the concentration of exhaust gas should be high, and the drying effect and solvent residual value should be ensured, and the auxiliary means of equipment operation, such as the mechanized means of loading and unloading the coil, must be kept up.
(2) Using a flexo process. Less ink usage, less VOCs emissions, and intelligent design of the equipment have dramatically increased the quality and yield of flexo products. With the continuous maturity of flexographic printing technology, it has potential vitality in China's composite flexible packaging market, and the market development prospects are immeasurable.
(3) Improvement of traditional dry composite equipment. The design of traditional dry composite equipment has some problems in terms of production efficiency, VOCs emission, etc., and needs to be revolutionized. Only by improving efficiency, improving product quality, and reducing the consumption of adhesives and solvents can we meet environmental protection requirements.
End treatment
As a new process for China's flexible packaging industry, various VOCs end treatment processes, including recovery (absorption or adsorption), combustion (direct combustion or catalytic combustion) or regenerative thermal oxidation (RTO, Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer), They are slowly maturing. However, the author needs to remind everyone that various VOCs treatment processes, whether it is RTO, or steam or inert gas desorption scheme, have certain safety risks, such as explosive, flammable, static electricity, etc. Proper protective measures are in place, so care must be taken in the design of the VOCs, the safety standards used, and the selection of accessories.
Plant design
In terms of plant design, in order to meet the needs of environmental protection, to take advantage of equipment to meet customer requirements for the production environment, the plant design should meet the following requirements:
(1) Design the plant layout according to a reasonable process to achieve the shortest and most reasonable logistics and pedestrian flow.
(2) In order to complete the entire production process in a closed and controlled stable environment, this closed and controlled stable environment includes controllable temperature and humidity, positive pressure in the workshop, and a series of variables that affect the quality of flexible packaging products. Cleanliness requirements.
(3) The layout of the plant and equipment should take into account the reasonable position of the exhaust and exhaust air and VOCs treatment equipment, ensure the minimum wind resistance of the intake and exhaust air, maintain the negative pressure inside the oven, and ensure that the VOCs treatment equipment has a reasonable and sufficient placement position.
(4) Consider the application of the future enterprise management system (such as ERP management system) at the production site.
(5) To meet the requirements of the building and fire regulations.
Some practices of foreign counterparts
In terms of VOCs governance, share some of the practices of foreign counterparts:
(1) Foreign counterparts use flexo printing to produce composite flexible packaging (printing/compositing). In Europe, 60% of flexible packaging is produced by flexo printing; in the Americas, this number is 80%.
(2) Foreign flexible packaging enterprises are equipped with LEL (lowest explosive concentration) detection devices on flexible packaging production equipment using solvents. The exhaust gas can be safely and optimally concentrated, which is beneficial to the efficient recycling of VOCs.
(3) Gravure printing uses a single solvent or a single type of solvent ink, which creates favorable conditions for the end treatment of VOCs and solvent recycling. Among them, there is no shortage of flexible packaging enterprises that use a single solvent to achieve solvent recycling and reuse, to achieve a recycling economy and reduce production costs.
(4) According to climatic conditions, many foreign counterparts use combustion or RTO methods for VOCs management and comprehensive utilization of heat sources.
(5) In some European countries, such as Germany, Portugal, and Italy, there are also flexible packaging companies that use two VOCs processing devices (RTO and adsorption desorption).
