Running arm energy consumption impact?

When you want to swing your arms when you are running, it is common knowledge that you usually give explanations that help maintain your balance. What effect does the swinging arm have on the energy consumed during the entire running session?

Researchers from the University of Colorado and other institutions recently reported in the British Journal of Experimental Biology that they invited some running enthusiasts to participate in the trial. The subjects were asked to run in various postures: normal swing arm posture, There are postures such as putting arms on the back, crossing on the chest, and lifting on the head. The researchers used instruments to measure the body's metabolism during running in different postures.

The analysis showed that the normal swing arm can reduce the energy consumption during running, which is 3% lower than putting the arm behind the back; it is 9% lower than crossing the arm on the chest; and the arm is on the head. It is 13% lower than it is.

In addition, this study further confirmed the effect of the running arm to maintain body balance. When the subjects were running in other postures with non-arm swings, their shoulders exhibited greater twisting to maintain balance.
