The first pair of shoes made by robots was born from Adidas

Little cool has something to say: Discovering the news of the recent shoe industry continues, the robot era has quietly entered our lives. Does this mean that the shoe production will be greatly improved? And see the text ~

Last week, Adidas announced a running shoe named Futurecraft MFG. Adidas called the shoes “predicting a new era, providing more precise, unique designs and high performance for footwear manufacturing.”

The German sports giants seem to be very optimistic about the future "robot revolution." Last year, they announced the SpeedFactory plan. The first factory in Germany has been officially launched and is operated almost entirely by robots. The Futurecraft MFG is the first pair of running shoes produced by the factory. .

According to an official video, you can see that the knitted Primeknit fabric has been machine-sanded, sewn, assembled with Boost soles, and finally turned into a pair of running shoes. Although manual assistance is still required in the process, all assembly parts are done by the machine. This new batch of shoes will be equipped with a specially designed shoe mark, a total of 500 pairs, is expected to be on sale in the German market next year, the price has not been disclosed.

It is reported that Adidas used ARAMIS motion capture technology in its design. This technique will design more suitable shoes based on the individual's skin or bone pressure and laxity. Ben Heath, the company’s vice president of design, said at the press conference that “MFG is a model for using robots to design more uniform shoes for athletes.”

Most of Adidas' current manufacturing operations are still outsourced to manufacturers in China and other Asian countries. The vast majority of its annual output of approximately 300 million sports shoes is manufactured manually. And SpeedFactory's current production of 500 pairs of prototype shoes, it is obviously too early to replace the former.

However, in the long run, low-cost robotic factories after labor reduction can make Adidas benefit from manufacturing. Lower labor costs also mean that the company can build more SpeedFactory in the future closer to the sales market, so that it can more quickly obtain and meet consumer demand and shorten the supply chain cycle.

Nike also began implementing cost reduction plans to promote product manufacturing to close to major markets. In October 2015, the company announced cooperation with Silicon Valley technology company FLEX, which is familiar with how to manufacture electronic products, medical and automotive components.

Their first collaboration was for FLEX to create a fate-defying FuelBand sports wristband for Nike. Now, Nike plans to import FLEX's high-tech expertise into its Asian apparel production partners and establish an area of 125,000 in the company's headquarters. The square foot (about 11612 square meters) of Nike's leading product innovation center, jointly develop 3D printing technology, weaving technology, and automation technology.

In August this year, the Nike Group sought the help of private equity giant Apollo Global Management to integrate supply chains and plans to establish new factory, warehousing and logistics systems in mature markets such as Europe and the United States in order to increase its ability to respond to the market. However, Nike did not publicize these plans. schedule.

Adidas will launch the second SpeedFactory in Atlanta, USA in 2017. The company stated that it expects to produce 50,000 pairs of shoes per month in the Atlanta factory in the second half of next year, but this figure still accounts for no more than 1% of the overall production of Adidas. If it goes well, the robot factory can produce 1 million pairs of shoes each year. They will be mainly used for customized shoe orders.
