Vietnam advocates strengthening children's toy safety regulations

At the end of 2017, the World Trade Organization (WTO) issued a circular on Vietnam’s proposal to amend its national children’s toy safety regulations.

The WTO proposed in G/TBT/N/VNM/114 No. 17-6733 that the draft toy safety regulation QCVN 03:2017/BKHCN aims to amend the toy safety regulations of QCVN 03:2009/BKHCN. Upon adoption of this amendment proposal, the following major changes will be made to Regulation QCVN 03:2009-BKHC:

● Updated physical and mechanical properties and combustion performance standards;

● Updated formaldehyde content in textile fabrics and wood products;

● Issue a new set of requirements for phthalates and electric toys;

● The toy label must contain certain information and comply with the relevant regulations of the new regulations on label No. 43/2017/ND-CP, which will be issued on April 14, 2017.

According to the requirements of the WTO circular, the deadline for comments is February 5, 2018.
