[Game Puppet] Introduction to Game Dolls In the 1980s, a variety of popular doll series were born, many of which were based on cartoon series and one of the main marketing methods of toy companies. The most successful ones are: Masters of the Universe, Special Forces, Thundercats and Super Powers Collection, to name but a few. In the early 1980s, Japanese robot cartoons such as "Gundam" also prompted Takara to repackage the Microman series and become Micro Robots, transforming the robot figure concept into a living robot concept. This gave birth to the Micro Change series of toys: robots that can be "deformed". In 1984, the cooperation with Takara enabled Hasbro to obtain the copyright of Micro Change and another Takara series of Diaclone variants. In the United States, it became a " Transformer " and created an ever-expanding animated family. >>Optional: Anime Game Doll | Genuine Game Doll | ![]() |

â– Production of game dolls
Materials for the first edition of raw materials include aluminum wire and sculpture clay, as well as various engraving tools. The doll itself is molded by a mold such as ABS. ABS is harder to make the body. Softer materials such as PP, PE, etc., are often used to make smaller accessories and apparel. Various fabrics such as rayon and nylon are used to make clothing accessories such as coats, cloaks, masks, and the like. The last is to paint a variety of colors. In addition, more sophisticated toys may also have miniature electronic components that provide light and sound effects.
Once the character of the design doll is selected, the real design process begins with a sketch of the doll. The next step is to make the clay first edition (prototype). An aluminum wire is used to form an armature that supports the skeleton of the figure. The aluminum wire frame includes the outline of the arms and legs, simulating the approximate posture that the doll will be placed. The engraver then adds clay to the outer frame to make the required basic load and shape. The clay may be baked during the first edition to make it strong. The engraver then uses various tools, such as coils, to cut the clay to shape the details of the doll.
After the basic form appears, the engraver may cut the arm, mark it separately, and install it later. This approach can make the engraver more complete control of the doll, and draw more detailed details on the first edition. The engraver also uses tools such as sickles to modify the body shape of the doll. In this process, photos and sketches are also used for reference to ensure that the dolls are as realistic as possible. Some engravers even recruit mannequins to guide their design work.
After the general outline of the body is completed, the engraver begins to modify the more refined details, paying special attention to the eyes, nose and mouth, in order to have a real expression. The designer may add a thick piece of clay to the head of the doll to fill the temporary head, and the real head is engraved with another bracket. In this way, the engraver can disregard the body and independently process the facial expressions of the doll until the finished head is again mounted on the main bracket and bonded to the body through the clay. After the head is installed, continue to engrave the neck and hair to match the doll. Then, depending on the design of the doll, the garment may be directly engraved on the body. Of course, if the costume or uniform is attached later, then the first edition does not need to engrave the details of the costume. During this process, some of the clay may be covered with aluminum mesh to avoid premature drying. When everything is ready, the entire doll is baked and reinforced.
The first edition of the engraving is sent to the manufacturer for approval. After all the design details have been finalized, the first version is used to make the mold, which is molded into plastic parts for assembly. The entire engraving process takes about two weeks, depending on the skill and speed of the engraver. This process may also be repeated several times if there is a need to make design changes to the doll. A typical design phase takes several months.
