France successfully develops new degradable plastics

The lasucreried'Erstein plant in Alsace, France, uses beet sugar or cereal sugars to make biodegradable plastics that are technically reliable and affordable.
At present, although the manufacturer already knows how to use cornstarch to make biodegradable plastics, this process is very expensive to produce and is rarely used in other fields besides producing medical plastics. The Erstein sugar factory in France, the Marseille Development Institute (IRD) and Montpellier University jointly developed this process for the manufacture of biodegradable plastics from beet sugar. Their goal is to obtain a polymer with lower production costs. The French "Cacao Development Center" (CVG) and Champagne Regional Research Organization "Agricultural Industry Research and Development Center" (ARD) are also conducting research in the same way.
