Japan uses waste styrene to produce new insulation materials

In August 2003, Daesung Construction Co., Ltd. developed a lightweight insulation material using waste styrene as the aggregate, which not only reduced the production cost of the insulation material, but also found a new way for the use of waste styrene.
The technology developed by the company is to crush the waste styrene first, and spray inorganic powder on the surface, and then perform special heat treatment to produce a solid ultra-lightweight material. Then, these materials are mixed with cement and the like to produce a lightweight heat-insulating material with high thermal insulation properties.
Dacheng Construction Company has produced 600 mm long, 400 mm wide and 50 mm thick new thermal insulation decorative materials using waste styrene as the bone material. Compared with the existing materials, the new type of heat-insulating decorative materials have reduced water absorption by 50%, thermal insulation performance by 20%, and cost reduction by more than 20%. Discarded styrene aggregates account for 50% of the total volume of the new thermal insulation material and have the advantages of being smooth and non-flammable.
