Makaru Mountain Makaru Mountain is 8,463 meters above sea level and is the fifth highest peak in the world. It is located at 87.1° east longitude and 27.9° north latitude. It is located in the middle of the Himalayas, and its straight line distance of 24 km to the northwest is Mount Everest. Along the northwestern ridge and southeastern ridge, the northern side is in the territory of China’s Tibet Autonomous Region and the south side is the Kingdom of Nepal.
Mount Makalu has five major ridges: the northwestern ridge, the southwestern ridge, the northeastern ridge, the southeastern ridge, and the northern ridge. The Weifeng on the northern ridge is called Mount Everest and its altitude is 7861 meters. The Weifeng Peak of the northwestern ridge is the Makalu II peak, which is 7,640 meters above sea level. The Weifeng on the southeastern ridge is slightly higher, with an altitude of 8010 meters. These peaks are covered with thick snow and ice. There are huge glaciers in the valleys. There are many jagged cliffs and cracks on the glaciers. Ice avalanches are also frequent.
Into the mountain road map
In 1954, one of the French climbers climbed to the Makalu II peak at 7,640 meters above sea level (another climbed this peak in 1980).
In 1970, two members of the climbing team climbed 8010 meters above the southeast Weifeng. In May 1955, nine French mosques such as Moses Gerais and Keita Tanke crossed the saddle of the northwestern ridge along the Malang Glacier in Nepal for the first time and reached the summit in the northwestern slope of China. Into the mountain route: from Lhasa ride along the Sino-Nigeria Highway via Gyantse, Gandhi to Ziegel, travel 670 km, takes two days. Further west, transfer south to Baiba, Pazhuo, Qatar to Yupa Township and travel about 120 kilometers. The yak can be transferred to the south and arrive at the base of Shajijitang, the base of the Khandang Tsang River (tributary of the Pengqu River). The journey takes approximately 60 kilometers. This is the northeastern foothills of Makaru Mountain, 3,600 meters above sea level. The camp is relatively open and the water source is relatively abundant.
