Germany's Treofan company has newly developed a metallized polylactide film product. The biodegradable metallized film is traded under the brand name of Biophan. Compared with ordinary films, it has high gloss, excellent aroma, oxygen and moisture barrier properties. Suitable for packaging all kinds of foods with high fat content, such as cream, cheese, candy, etc. Treofan is developing a new generation of more barrier-type Biophan film products, which is intended for packaging fresh fish and meat.

Biophan film meets the EU and US FDA requirements for food-contact packaging materials and has also passed the German Industrial Standard (DIN) certification. According to Treofan, under the same relative humidity conditions, the oxygen permeability of Biophan film is only 1/12 of that of non-plated polylactic acid film, which is close to the metallized PP film, and higher than the metallized glass paper. . The company expects that the combination of Biophan film with good hydrophobic properties and paper will replace the aluminum-plastic composite packaging film. The market for candy packaging film is promising.
