URWERK Continued Patek Philippe "Cobra" concept watch dream
In the 1959 Future Trend trade show, Patek Philippe featured a concept watch called Cobra. However, Patek Philippe has never intended to include this watch in the production plan. Now, the only prototype of this watch is lying quietly in the Patek Philippe Museum. Half a century later, the combination of the two geniuses in URWERK recreates Louis Cottier's watchmaking talent and continues with this "Cobra Story" that spanned over half a century.
In 1958, Louis Cottier and Gilbert Albert two people together to create a revolutionary watch with a straight line. The two men in the watch design avant-garde concept completely covered the prevailing watch aesthetic design point of view. Linear time display may seem simple, but the complexity of its internal mechanical structure is unprecedented. However, Louis Cottier and Gilbert Albert two smug, overcome the difficulties, eventually produced a prototype for the Patek Philippe watch, named "Cobra." In 1959, Louis Cottier patented this technology. However, it is regrettable that this plan will never be followed. The prototype of this watch is now lying quietly in the Patek Philippe Museum (collection number P-110), so inviting people to visit the people evoke bursts of reveries.
In 1998, Martin Frei, one of URWERK's founders, picked up paper and pen and sketched out a sketch of his straight-line watch, displayed in two parallel lines. However, the design of this watch has just stayed in the sketch stage, because at that time his partner, watchmaking genius Felix Baumgartner is focusing on the development of satellite-hour watch, and for the first time at the Basel table show, the straight-line display watch plan It was shelved again.
In 2006, URWERK's first satellite hour and minute display watch (UR202) has become famous, but Felix Baumgartner is still thinking of developing another new time display mode. Later, after he watched the classic film "The Birds" by famous director Alfred Hitchcock, a few seconds of play inspired him greatly. In the movie, the actress hid in the old Dodge car to avoid the blitzkrieg attack. One of the near-mirrors was just aimed at the straight-line speedometer on the dashboard ... Felix blinked, recalling the idea of straight-line time. In order to realize this idea, Felix and Martin Frei spent time and time in their studies, drawing on the revolutionary designs from Louis Cottier and Gilbert Albert in the study as the inspiration of their own design.
In 2009, after 3 years of research and 1 year of testing, the UR-CC1 watch nicknamed "King Cobra" was officially unveiled. CC is an acronym for Cottier Cobra, who would like to pay tribute to the great master Louis Cottier of the year.
