Soft proofing with Photoshop in G7

The current color management needs a good CRT or LCD display, under the appropriate light source, to simulate the printed proofs. But getting the best soft proofs is not as simple as it seems.

basic requirements:

A monitor in a better state, a higher color gamut, and a higher contrast. An accurate display ICC file. An ICC file used for simulation, better, generated by equipment or characterization data. A software that can display absolute colors. Degree mode from CMYK source files to monitor files, such as Adobe Photoshop
A controllable observation environment, in the observer's field of view, the display is in the brightest part.
In such an observation environment, the printed proofs or proofing proofs can be compared with the image on the display to obtain the same hue and brightness as the display, such as the black D50 observation box like GTI's SOFV-1e.

Soft proofing with Adobe Photoshop

After hard work, one method for soft proofing is to use Adobe PhotoshopTM 7 or later, and use the devices, files, and status listed above, but Photoshop cannot accurately display CMYK images by default. Generally, embedding the correct file in the CMYK image will produce an image. The highlight and dark contrast, paper color and maximum ink density of this image cannot be accurately displayed.

The following suggestions may help you accurately display CMYK images in Photoshop:

For the easiest soft proofing, use Photoshop CS instead of CS2

Make a white image (0, 0, 0, 0, CMYK), then add the standard file

Select View-Proof Setup-Simulate Paper White in Photoshop CS.

Ensure that the display is at maximum brightness, but when two adjacent machines are matched, first set the darker display to the brightest state, then lower the brighter one to match the darker one.

Adjust the light box on the monitor so that the white paper on the light box (also used to make CMYK images) matches the brightness of the blank CMYK image on the screen.

Use software to create a fourth version of the ICC file, this software needs to be precise manual

White point adjustment such as MonacoOPTIX Pro or ColorEyes Display

Correct the white point of the monitor until the white image is the same color as the white paper. This can be easily achieved by adjusting the x or y white point value through the display file processing software, but what is more difficult or impossible is to provide only a few conventional options in the software, such as "D50, D65" or "5000K, 6000K, 6500K "

If possible, the light source of the observation light box can be measured with the measuring instrument of the measuring display

After adjusting the white point of the monitor, the brightness of the light box should be adjusted again.
