Germany developed a wine-free pollution cap

Due to the cork problem, wine often deteriorates. Now WhitehallLine Winery in Napa, California, solved the problem. The winery uses a tin seal cap product called Vino-Seal, which is a sterile cap made of glass. WhitehallLine used this new cap on its own 2003 Napa Collection Cabernet Sauvignon and 2003 Leonardini Chateau Cabernet Sauvignon.

Mike Yulin, general manager of WhitehallLine Winery, said that they hope to find a good alternative, and people hope to seal the high-end wine with more advanced stoppers.

The Vino-Seal features a cork stopper. The 2003 collection of Cabernet Sauvignon will be available this month. This wine looks very much like a traditional cork stoppered wine. Vino-Seal reduces spoilage caused by cork stoppers, eliminates cork debris, and does not require a bottle opener. If you can't drink it once, you can push it back in, and it won't splatter no matter if it shakes or tilts.

Engineers at Alcoa, a German manufacturer of aluminum, developed the Vino-Seal cap, which in Europe is called Vino-Lok. Dean Sevister, winemaker at Whitehall Wine Company, worked with engineers to test the effect of this cap on the aroma, flavor and aging of the wine.

Now that the research work is not over, Mark Lin told reporters that early studies showed that Vino-Seal allowed a small amount of oxygen to pass through as much as natural cork stoppers. Many experts believe that oxygen permeability is the core element of aging.

Mark Lin said, “We studied in Germany for three years. We discovered that by using wine tasting, sealing with Vino-Seal is better than sealing with screw caps and artificial stoppers, which is probably comparable to high-grade cork stoppers, but we also need Observed for several years."

Wine expert Larry Sepstein believes that although the impact of Vino-Seal on aging is not yet certain, its advantages in other aspects are also very attractive.
